The first part of any treatment will be to find out how you feel, to find out what has been happening to you between treatments. Then we will recheck certain diagnostic areas such as your tongue and pulses. Any changes from what is expected could alter the treatment planned for you, if we need to address some new issue that has arisen since the last visit.
Once the treatment is in progress, it may involve different types of treatment such as moxa or cupping. However, the majority of treatments will involve the use of acupuncture needles. A number of people are concerned about this. The majority of times this concern stems from experiences with injections from either Doctors or Dentists. This concern is unfounded for a number of reasons.
Acupuncture needles are a lot thinner than other needles. Hypodermic needles are hollow to allow the flow of liquid, our needles are solid. The injection of liquid in hypodermic needles can be the cause of discomfort.
On top of this there is a major difference to the technique used. Acupuncture is sometimes not even felt by some people. The reason is two hands are used, the left hand stretches the skin and supports the needle. This helps the process, we are also trained not to actually insert the needle but let the patients energy or Qi to pull it in. This is all involved in the intent of needling and the selection of the correct acupuncture points for you.
